We start tile on Sunday, November 25, 2001

Scott demonstrating another use of the ab exerciser.
The beginning of the guest shower tile.
Getting closer to completion.
Completed guest shower, all that's left to do is the grouting. The windows up above are a feng shui thing to allow natural light into every room. The light comes from a tubular skylight just on the other side of that ceiling fixture. The glass will match the glass on the pantry door, called gluechip. Sort of a leaf pattern.
Tuesday November 27. Sort of a funky view of the study shower.
Those tough bottom tiles, they have to be perfectly level and plumb or you suffer the entire rest of the shower. This shower has the ceiling tiled as well.
The shower is ready for grout. The floor is one inch mosaic tiles, ugh. The baseboard behind the toilet is not nailed, I just cut it and put it in place before the toilet went in, or else I would have to do it in two pieces. Nailing will happen a bit later.
Detail of the study bathroom floor.
The completed study shower. Kohler shower fixtures have a brushed chrome finish.
A friend of ours, Guy, getting some hands-on tile practice setting tile in the pool area. In this area we used 3/16 inch tile spacers. They require a bit of practice, so you do not squash them and throw your grid off of layout.
The master bath floor, we laid it on the diagonal, 45 degrees. These are 8x8 inch tile.
Our last major project, the entry and hall tile just arrived so today, Tuesday, we begin to install it. A fairly serious project, it will be nice to get it completed. A brief note on floor tile layout. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration, however, I feel the most important one is to absolutely make sure your layoyt grid is perfectly square. Notice the red snap lines, they are precisely snapped, I did not use spacers on this floor because two 6x6 inch tiles did not equal one 12x12 inch tile.
The entry tile before grouting. Notice the two 6x6 tiles next to the 12x12. That's why the layout was so important.
Guest bath done in 6x6 tiles.
Looking back toward the front door. Looking a bit more finished eh? This piece is called Le Loupe Solitaire, a wolf.
Looking out the arctic entry toward the foyer. The art work is called 'Face to face'. It is a polar bear. Most of the tile completed by January 9, 2002
