The form for the footer, finally. The pour comes tomorrow, Saturday, originally scheduled for Monday April 30th, weather slowed us down a few days, put off the schedule a bit.

Note: all of the photos on this site will open in a new browser window, if you click a link and nothing seems to happen it is not a bad link, look at your taskbar and click on the icon that is not indented.

Footer form in. Whew.... Friday, May 4th the footer is in and ready to pour. It has been tough to convince the subs that we are ready and do not put us off. This footer form is built from 2x10x16 boards. The setup is simple, stretch a stringline between two stakes and line up the form with it. The tricky part is squaring up the form. Essentially you use a 3-4-5 triangle. Any multiple of this will check your footers for square. For example 30 feet by 40 feet by 50 feet. 50 feet is the hypotenuse of the right triangle. 30 feet and 40 feet are the legs. You could also use 9-12-15 or 27-36-45. Okay.
Footer form in. This is the subs screeding Gretchens pool slab, the pool will make a lot more sense when we get to installing it, so please hold off on your questions about it untill then.
Footer form in. The completed footer measures 10 inches tall by 16 inches wide. There are two pieces of #5 rebar running continuously throughout the length. Even through the steps. All of those pieces sticking up are rebar, called dowels, spaced 8 5/8 inches apart. The dowel layout varies depending on what type of foundation you are building, since we are using Insulform the layout is different than if we were using block or Quadlock. The rebar keeps the foundation wall from sliding off of the footer and anchores the foundation. The huge pile of white objects in the back are the future foundation walls. They are styrofoam blocks that stack and interlock. Tomorrow we will start that assembly process.
