Discovery Hut Antarctica This hut built for the Nimrod expedition of 1907, called Discovery hut was aptly named. It was during this expedition that Shackleton made it furthest south (for 1907) and established the Beardmore Glacier route over the Transantarctic mountains. Shackleton's expedition also discovered the south magnetic pole and made the first ascent of Mt. Erebus.
