Pinus Ponderosa Pinaceae Ponderosa pine is the most important, widespread pine of the West, and arguably the tree that most characterizes the region. It is a montane species forming pure stands or mixed with other conifers. It is often found in open, park-like stands. Trees live as long as 500 years. The flowering bush is Mountain Spray (Holodiscus discolor).
