This photo of the North
side of the main building
was taken before the remodel in 1985.
The remodel added a new clerestory section
to take advantage of solar gain.
The reddish color on the ground is fireweed - see reference below.

This photo is a link to a full size photo 725x520, 63 kbytes.
We think the wait is worth it, we hope the larger photo somewhat conveys the immensity of the Atlin sector.

This is an ablation moat just South of Camp 26,
this photo was taken in 1983.
Today there is no moat...
the glacier has downwasted to a point
where you can easily walk down off the glacier.
Note there are two people in the photo.

Fireweed.
Camp 26 is often called the "bananna belt" of the Icefield.
We wonder where that nickname came from
since the catabatic wind blows hard enough and often enough to make you wonder why anyone would think of Camp 26 as warm.
In 1984 Donner and two others mapped 4280 feet (1317 meters) of sub-glacial caves - the Llewellyn Glacial cave system. Being a sub-glacial cave system the caves are developed between ice and bedrock, not within the ice (englacial caves). I have a few photos of the cave.

This concludes the Adventures. We hope you have enjoyed your stay. If you have any comments or suggestions please drop us a note. Thanks for visiting!!!!!!!
Due to many requests we have added a few more pictures. Follow this link.
