On September 15th, 2005 a radio call came in to the remote lodge where I was working. The seismograph station in UA Fairbanks, AK had picked up an earthquake w/ a magnitude of 3.7. They determined it was most likely a landslide based on the unusual seismic trace the earth movement left on the seismograph. I was lucky enough to be invited on the flight to find the landslide and to be one of only four people to see it. It is hard to visualize the scale of the event, however, the length of the slide is approximately 14km (8 miles) and the drop was about 2700 meters (8000 vertical feet). It was a huge, amazing, natural occurence to see. These are the pictures that resulted from that flight.
